Calle Cinco opened as a pop-up experiment from restauranteur Michael Schlow and chef Alex Levin in late 2017, taking over the space next to Alta Strada on K Street. As one of the few tapas options in the neighborhood, it quickly made a name for itself as one of the most forward-thinking Iberian restaurants in the DMV, and one of the best happy hours in the neighborhood.
Happy hour specials include $5 fruit-filled sangria, refreshing house punch, and traditional vodka tonics. While you sip, feel free to order a series of small plates for as long as you feel like staying. You’ll find all the tried-and-true tapas standbys, including olives, manchego cheese, smoked chorizo, grilled shrimp, and more. These dishes are complimented by daily croquetas, a selection of charcuterie plates piled high with Spanish ham, and unique standouts like piquillo peppers stuffed with goat cheese. While dessert isn’t commonly associated with tapas, regulars say the churros here are not to be missed.
