The Washington International Horse Show, held October 23rd through the 28th at the Capital One Arena, brings some of the world’s best equestrians together to compete for a multitude of prizes — including $130,000 in the Longines FEI World Cup Jumping. The show is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, and it always attracts more than 500 competitors, including current stars and Olympic veterans.
Highlights of the event include adrenaline-fueled show jumpers, dancing dressage horses, classic equitation, action-packed barrel races, plus Kids’ Day, Barn Night, Military Night, special exhibitions, and shopping. Don’t miss the most popular event, the WIHS Shetland Pony Steeplechase races, in which the jockeys are kids between the ages of 7 and 14 mounted on speedy Shetland Ponies racing over a course of mini-hurdles.
Daytime tickets are $15 for adults and children are free, while evening sessions are $25 for adults and $15 for children. You can also purchase an Anytime Ticket Package ($100 for adults, $50 for children), giving you access to all 11 performances.
