It’s rare for a newly opened restaurant to have a 5-star review on Yelp, let alone one in Washington DC, but Retrobottega has accomplished this tall task. The menu is focused around tapas and small plates with a heavy Italian influence, along with a premium bar selection that’s worth a trip all on its own. Be sure to get a sampling of premium meats and cheeses when you start off with drinks, or one of the expertly prepared antipasti like fried polenta or crisp arancini. If drinks turn into dinner, Retrobottega offers a small sampling of substantial dishes that are absolute perfection on a plate. Oxtail lasagna is rich and meaty, or the seafood risotto is perfectly complemented by nutty brown butter and tangy capers. No matter what you choose, start off with the octopus salad or halibut crudo for a light, refreshing start to your meal.
Retrobottega is certainly a chef driven spot, and the Adams Morgan neighborhood is all the better for it. Get to this hot spot before word spreads and tables are hard to come by.
