Locals are loving Mexicue, a new spot on the restaurant scene in D.C. that combines the best of barbecue and Mexican food. Located on 14th Street, Mexicue offers made-from-scratch food, served tapas style, with cocktails and drinks.
Mexicue began as a traveling food truck in New York City in 2010. The concept was so popular that the owners decided to expand it and turn Mexicue into a full restaurant and bar, now with multiple locations in New York and Connecticut. The restaurant helps fill a “Mexican-food” void in the downtown restaurant scene, and is one of the few places to get unique and delicious tacos, queso, and nachos.
Regulars’ favorite choices are the BBQ rice bowl and shrimp romaine boat. The tacos area a must-have, too. They come in flavors like hot chicken and charred cauliflower, and they’re huge — so come hungry! Don’t forget to try the house hot sauces, which are made at the restaurant daily. The drink menu is also extensive, and features numerous types of tequila and cocktails.
The restaurant has a trendy, hip vibe and a welcoming atmosphere. If you plan to stop by, you can make reservations online through Yelp.
